Analyzing Open-Ended Questions in the Platform

About Open-ended Questions

Open-ended questions are crucial for capturing the full spectrum of respondents’ perspectives, as they provide feedback in their own words, unlike close-ended questions that may limit the depth of insights.

However, the challenge lies in effectively analyzing and extracting valuable insights from this rich data.

Unlocking the Full Potential of Your Open-ends

The Potloc Platform bridges the gap between qualitative and quantitative data, allowing you to identify key themes and trends in your open-ended responses for deeper insights.

In the Detailed Results tab, you can explore your open-ended data in three main ways:

  1. Categorized Open-ends: This format offers two tabs for your question. The first tab presents the codified results, allowing you to quantify trends. The second tab gives you access to all the verbatim responses for that specific question.

  2. Non-categorized Open-ends (without codification): Here, you’ll find a single tab displaying the entire list of verbatim responses.Screenshot 2024-08-20 at 4.20.05 PM
  3. Questions with ‘Other, specify’: Similar to the categorized open-ends, this format provides two tabs. The first tab shows the results of the close-ended question, while the second tab lists all verbatim responses entered in the text box to justify respondents’ choices.Screenshot 2024-08-20 at 4.22.06 PM

Qualitative and Quantitative Data in Open-ends

While the primary output of an open-text question is qualitative comments, categorizing these responses unlocks another level of analysis by providing quantitative data.

  • Quantitative data will measure trends and answer the question "What"
  • Qualitative data will explain the reason behind trends and answer the question "Why"

Understanding and utilizing both types of data ensures a comprehensive analysis of your open-ended responses.
